Welcome to the
Magic of Styraki

Some Background
About Dinosaurs
The sweet and simple world of Styraki and his plant-eating cousins is hardly representative of the time of the dinosaurs. Many dinosaurs, such as the Tyrannosaurus rex, were vicious meat-eating killers.
So, when did dinosaurs roam this planet? As shown in the following timeline, dinosaurs went extinct some 65 million years ago, which is a very, very, very long time ago. Consider that modern humans came about only some 200,000 years ago. Dinosaurs and humans, therefore did NOT live at the same time. But with an important exception: Evidence suggests that today’s birds are direct descendants of dinosaurs!

For how long were dinosaurs on this planet? Paleontologists, who are scientists that study fossils, currently estimate that the dinosaurs first appeared about 245 million years ago. This means that there were dinosaurs on this planet for about 179 million years (245 – 66 = 179). Dinosaurs, therefore, were a very successful sort of living being. Evidence suggests they went extinct only because of a huge asteroid or comet collided with Earth. Such a collision would have filled the skies with debris. Among other things, this would have blocked sunlight thereby upsetting the food chain.
Interestingly, the apatosaurus lived on Earth about 150 million years ago, while the styracosaurus lived here about 75 million years ago. This means that Styraki and his cousins could not have possibly been together.
The apatosaurus was one of the largest dinosaurs, reaching up to 75 feet in length. Skeletal remains show that it had a long whip-like tail, which it likely used as a means of self-defense. Like most plant-eating dinosaurs, the apatosaurus ate rocks, which in their bellies would help to grind up the massive amounts of plant material they would eat.
In the author’s opinion, the styracosaurus wasn’t exactly the prettiest of dinosaurs. However, their ferocious and sharply pointed horns served as excellent means of protection against the meat-eating dinosaurs of their time. The mouths of the styracosauruses were clearly designed for the eating of plants, which means they were much more gentle in their behavior than their looks.

Fun Facts
If you were to count continuously at a rate of 1 count per second (with no sleeping), it would take about 11.6 days to count to one million. To count to 65 million would take about two years. To count to 1000 million (one billion) would take about 32 years! Is there a difference between a million and a billion? Very much so. Many lines of evidence suggest that life became a thing on this planet about 3.8 billion years ago. That’s a loooooong time ago. The planet itself formed about 4.5 billion years ago. The universe as we know it appears to be about 13.8 billion years old. Wow!
